Engine coolant

Check the reservoir level with the engine cold and investigate repeated coolant loss. Coolant type and replacement procedure matter as much as capacity.

IntervalFirst replacement at 45,000 miles or 36 months; then every 30,000 miles or 24 months in the published schedule. The same coolant intervals apply under severe use.Verified

Configuration-specific service and fitment facts

These sourced values are shared by the specification sheet and the maintenance guides for this exact configuration.

Coolant specification
Genuine Honda Antifreeze/Coolant, 50% coolant and 50% water VerifiedA major-brand non-silicate coolant for aluminum engines is a temporary substitute only. This evidence does not establish Type 2 backward compatibility.
Engine coolant capacity
3.4 US qt VerifiedOwner-table change figure includes the 0.4 L reserve and coolant remaining in the engine. Do not treat the dry total as a refill or buying quantity.
Cooling-system precautions
Never open a hot pressurized cooling system. A total-system capacity is not necessarily the amount that drains during a routine change; follow the engine-specific bleeding procedure.
Severe-use applicability
Use severe intervals when the car is MAINLY driven on short trips (under 5 miles, or under 10 miles in freezing weather), above 90°F/32°C, with extensive idling/stop-go, with a roof carrier/in mountains, or on muddy, dusty or de-iced roads. Occasional exposure alone does not select severe.
